About the Author

My name is George Maxim—a full-time professional, college student, and an author with a story to tell. I’m working toward my degree in electrical engineering while bringing Phoenix: Born of Ruin to life, a story that’s been over 10 years in the making. None of this would be possible without the love and support of my beautiful wife and best friend, Amanda. I’m also a proud dad to two awesome boys—Zach, whose dedication on the hockey rink shows his passion and grit, and Vinny, who’s mastering his moves in karate. Alongside them, our pet family includes Bernard, our affectionate Yorkiepoo; Rudey, a lively 1.5-year-old conure; and Chippy, our "very special" cockatiel. Every step of this journey is for them.

What inspired the story of Phoenix: Born of Ruin?

This story has been in the making for over 10 years! It all started with the idea of resilience in a world that’s been completely turned upside down. Phoenix’s character grew from my fascination with strength, vulnerability, and the human drive to keep going even when all hope seems lost.

What makes Phoenix different from other dystopian novels?

Phoenix’s journey is not just about survival—it's about discovering hidden truths, confronting powerful enemies, and uncovering secrets buried deep within the ruins of her world. There’s a strong emotional core to the story, with themes of family, loyalty, and self-discovery. And of course, there’s plenty of mystery, action, and unexpected twists!

Who is your favorite character to write?

Without giving away too much, I’d say Phoenix and her brother Edward were the most challenging but also the most rewarding to write. Their relationship is complex and central to the story’s heart. But Mira, with her secrets and hidden motives, brought a lot of tension to the table as well!

What should readers expect from the book’s ending?

Expect an open ending that hints at much bigger things to come. Phoenix: Born of Ruin is just the beginning—there are more secrets, betrayals, and confrontations to explore in future books!

Will there be more books in the Phoenix series?

Yes! Born of Ruin is just the first installment in a planned trilogy. Each book will take the story deeper into the mystery of the collapse and the shadowy forces behind it.

What made you choose the title of the book? Phoenix?

Honestly, it was a shift that happened as I dug deeper into the heart of the story. Julia was my original name for the character, but as her journey evolved, I realized she needed a name that truly symbolized her resilience and transformation. The name Phoenix represents rebirth from ashes, and that perfectly mirrors her character arc—rising from the ruins of her world, stronger and more determined. It’s a powerful metaphor for the battles she faces and the strength she discovers within herself.
